The birth of a child is a wonderful occasion, it reminds us of the gift that life is, that it is full of potential and dreams to be lived.
In the Unitarian church, it is important for the new born child to welcomed into the community, not just that of his or her family but the wider human family of which we are all a part. It is like the infant a family that grows and evolves day by day.

A Unitarian naming ceremony offers such a welcome for a child and offers the chance for the family to celebrate their new arrival. The ceremony can be tailored to suit the beliefs of the parents or simply to reflect the virtues and aspirations that will be nurtured within their child. The service involves a blessing with water and perfumed oils.
The ceremony does not wash away or recognize original sin, nor does it enrol the infant into the Unitarian church.
* It is pointed out that some mainstream Christian churches may not recognize this ceremony as a valid sacrament and this may cause issues when applying for certain schools.
If this is an issue for parents then our minister, Rev Mike can also offer sacramental baptism within the Non Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland. This is recognized by all Christian churches. Again it does not involve original sin or admit the infant into any church.
If you would like to chat to Rev Mike then please email : corkunitarian@gmail.com or call him at : 087 953 9998
