On Sunday 1st March in place of a homily from the Minister, we will have a short presentation on the ceramic tiles in the church courtyard. The tiles, six of them, are embedded into the pathway leading from the church gates to the front doors. Each has a biblical theme. Pictured is one of the tiles, which as you can see is themed on a verse from the Book of Genesis. The presentation will be given during service by church member Dr Virginia Giglio who has consulted the Crawford Art Gallery and the National Museum of Ireland. From the 7th -9th of April 2020 members of the Unitarian Church from across the UK will gather for their Annual General Meeting at the Hilton hotel in Birmingham. Ministers will have two days of meetings before hand. The conference is a time to meet, discuss and debate issues for the future, as well as daily worship and morning and night prayer services.
The highlight is the annual Anniversary Service, which for the first time will be conducted by two ministers from Ireland. The theme of the service is; " Lets talk Soul". The sermon will be delivered by The Rev Bridget Spain, Minister of the Unitarian Church, St Stephens Green, Dublin. The service will be led by The Rev Mike O'Sullivan, Minister of the Unitarian church, Cork. The Anniversary Prayer will be delivered by Rev Celia Cartwright, President of the General Assembly. On Sunday, 3rd Feb, we welcomed to our service a number of Buddhist clergy who were visting Cork for the Chinese new Year celebrations. Among them was Sifu Douglas who is Vice Abbot of the Dali Rulai Temple in Los Angeles. During service, Chair of the church, Mr Brian Cluer presented Douglas with a St Brigid's cross to mark his visit. Sifu Douglas spoke of the warmth and openness of the Unitarian church, something he had experienced in America. Our minister then invited Douglas to carry out the Final blessing or benediction to end the service.
